Authorities on Friday disallowed congregational prayers for the fifth consecutive week at historic Jamia Masjid in Downtown Srinagar by imposing restrictions in the area.
Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who addresses the faithful at the mosque every Friday has been placed under house arrest.
Restrictions were imposed in Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari and Maisuma in Srinagar to prevent protests in these areas.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a shutdown and had asked people of Kashmir to observe 'Accession Day' day as a 'Black Day'.
